Making TurnSignl Available to Everyone

This week, we sat down with Jazz Hampton, CEO & General Counsel at TurnSignl, to talk about creating pathways to access the TurnSignl app for those who can’t afford the monthly subscription.

Here’s what he had to say:

Q: What made you decide to offer a free access option to users who may not be able to afford the monthly subscription fee?

A: When I was in law school, I volunteered to be a public defender here in Minnesota. The experience was invaluable, and one of the biggest lessons I learned was that there are countless people in this country that desperately need legal guidance, but they cannot afford it.

There are roughly 125 million Americans living paycheck to paycheck, so this reality should not be a surprise. People are going to need this service, and for some, it doesn’t matter if we make it $10 a month or $0.99, it’s just not in the budget. As we developed TurnSignl, we knew we had to keep all of those people at the forefront of our minds.

Q: How do these users get onto the app? Is there some special application process?

A: We don’t want anyone’s financial situation to prevent them from being safe and empowered, so our standard registration page has an option for “I Don’t Think I Can Afford It”, and users can answer a few short questions — employment status, income, dependents, etc. — and if they fall within our support thresholds, they’re subscribed on the app immediately.

We won’t charge them anything and they have access to the same platform as everyone else. There are no follow-up interviews and no credit card required because peace of mind is our priority.

Q: Will this option always be available?

A: Yes. As co-founders, Mychal, Andre and I all agree that our goal is to put high-quality legal guidance in the hands of every driver, and to remove barriers for those that stand to benefit most from the service.

This is made possible by our amazing TurnSignl Foundation, and by the many wonderful corporate sponsors that have dedicated themselves to giving back to their communities and bridging the gap.
