Get to Know Our Interns

At TurnSignl, we’re not just a team — we're a community dedicated to driving change. This summer, we've had the privilege of working with a talented group of interns who have brought fresh perspectives and incredible enthusiasm to our work.

In this special Q&A post, we’ll take a look at what drew these bright minds to TurnSignl, explore their future career aspirations, and learn more about these future leaders and entrepreneurs.

What Brought You to TurnSignl?

ARMANDO: The idea of being part of a revolutionary team that was taking initiative in tackling a major point of struggle in my community was my biggest incentive and point of appeal in working with TurnSignl.

GIULIA: I first learned about TurnSignl through my school, and I was immediately captivated by its mission. Before discovering TurnSignl, I was unaware of any app that offered such a unique and vital service. The concept of providing real-time, professional legal assistance when being pulled over or being involved in an accident struck me as revolutionary. This innovative approach to ensuring safety and justice resonated deeply with me, and I felt compelled to be a part of it.

NICK: I was brought to TurnSignl because Jazz Hampton, the CEO, was a professor for one of my favorite classes that I have taken at the University of St. Thomas. I liked the mission and culture of TurnSignl, so I applied for an internship!

Who Do You Think Needs This App?

GIULIA: While I believe everyone could benefit from TurnSignl, I think it is especially crucial for college students from BIPOC communities. As a student myself, I understand the myriad of worries we face daily, particularly when it comes to interactions with law enforcement. The peace of mind that TurnSignl offers—knowing that if we need to pull over, a legal professional will be there to help de-escalate any potential conflict—is invaluable. This app provides a much-needed layer of security and support, helping to alleviate some of the anxiety associated with driving while being a person of color.

CLAIRE: I believe everyone needs this app because it is an easy, convenient, and accessible resource. However, it is particularly important for POC and LGBTQ+ individuals as they often face biases, increasing anxiety during incidents. With TurnSignl, those anxieties are greatly minimized.

What is Something You Learned Working at TurnSignl?

ARMANDO: Working at TurnSignl, I have learned the importance of initiative and critical thinking, as well as insight into the level of effort and sophistication it takes to manage a startup.

CLAIRE: I learned to stand up for what I believe is right and to never be afraid to ask questions or follow up.

What Does The App Mean for You?

NICK: TurnSignl is a service that resonates with me because of its potential upsides for users. My father is an attorney who was focused on helping regular people against larger corporations. TurnSignl is designed to service individuals who would potentially be vulnerable without the presence of legal guidance in their passenger seat. Plus, attorneys are able to see the immediate, positive impact that they have on people’s livelihoods.

GIULIA: For me, TurnSignl represents a significant step towards creating accessible justice for a wide array of communities. The app is more than just a tool; it is a beacon of safety and reassurance. It symbolizes a move towards a more just and equitable society, where individuals can feel secure in their interactions with law enforcement. Personally, TurnSignl means that I, and many others, can feel safer in our own cities, knowing that we have support and advocacy at our fingertips. This sense of security and empowerment is what makes TurnSignl so impactful.

ARMANDO: To me, the app represents a tool for safety and justice, as well as a protection measure against the possibility of future negative interactions on the road.

CLAIRE: For me, the app represents a bridge that addresses and works to fix a real-life issue people face. It symbolizes justice, hope, and connection.

At TurnSignl, the Future is Bright

Since the beginning, our mission at TurnSignl has been to provide peace of mind to everyone on the road.

We do this by protecting drivers’ civil rights, de-escalating roadside interactions, and ensuring both drivers and law enforcement officers return home safely. The TurnSignl team is committed to building a future that makes access to justice available to everyone, especially in the moments that matter most.

If you’re interested in trying the app, it is available to download nationwide for iOS or Android. Let’s get to work!
